What is the difference between a FX4 and a Lariat? I am looking into purchasing an 07' S/C SS.

 

lariat to me had a nicer interior, leather trim, wood grain, etc.....
FX4 has a better offroad susp. i think....i know it has skid plates...

The Lightning has been fun for 3.5 years but I am over the mid life crisis now and would like something with some comfort and room for more than two.

YES I AM SERIOUS! Besides "A" plan really makes it easier to buy a loaded 40k truck.

 

QWIK..no to be an *** or anything but this question has been asked at least once a month ( it seems ) for the last 2 years. A quick search should give you plenty of info on it.

In short..Lariat has more leather in the seats then the FX4, Lariat has the message center that shows the fuel consumption and crap like that. FX4 has stiffer shocks ( Rancho made ) and thats about it. However, you can get the FX4 with the convenience package and get all the little extras that come in the Lariat.

FX4 looks cooler, looks meaner and is just better all around...Get an FX4

inside: bells and whistles. The lariat has the simulated wood grain and such to give it more of a cowboy cadillac look, while the Fx4 has the black sporty look aimed at a younger audience. The only two interior colors available for Fx4 is dark grey and black in cloth or leather. If you want tan you have to go for a lariat or lower. That's why I ended up with a lariat instead of an Fx4.

outside: the Fx4 has off road shocks and skid plates standard. The skid plates are an option on the Lariat the shocks are not. Other than that they are mechanicly identical. There are people that will try and tell you that the Fx4 has different springs and such but that is not true. Checked it out. Just stiffer shocks.

 

There is no Night and Day difference in my opinion. The Lariat has a more refined look and reputation, and the FX4 has more of a Off Road let's get dirty (no not like that ) reputation. Over all they are for the most part the same truck. Just go to Ford and do a comparison. Good Luck.

I like the FX4 interior better. You basicly get carbon fiber trim vs. Wood grain and a silverish gray dash vs. a tan dash. Mine has the gray leather seats. Just depends on what you prefer. As far as value of your truck, if you ever sell it, the Lariat will maintain a higher blue book value than an FX4.

 

what i dont understand is why they have paintd bumpers on the off road version. I would have so many little scratches and dings in my front bumper from stupid mistakes if it was painted. There are still a few dings in the chrome but hard to see untill your right up on it.

 

The Lariat gauge cluster is also different from the FX4. The Lariat is trimmed out with chrome and the gauges are spread out across the cluster. The FX4 has the spedo on one side and the tach on the other. The rest of the gauges are grouped in a square in between them. The Lariat also has the silverish grey dash.... not tan.

B) go to http://www.fordvehicles.com/trucks/f150/brochures/ and get the Adobe .pdf brochure to look over, print, etc.

C) stop by your local dealership and pick up the booklet/brochure with the same info but better pictures, etc.

D) at the same dealership, go sit in one of each ... take a look around.

 

It depends in what you're looking for in styling. The Lariat is more of the upper class (refined) Cowboy/Rancher type of truck. The FX4 has a modern sport truck look slapped on top of an off-road machine.

They're "essentially" the same truck mechanically. The FX4 just looks better. It's just not my opinion. I never had people stop me and compliment my Lariat trucks, but I get people wanting to check out my FX4 all the time. If another lady tells me my FX4 is a "pretty truck" again, I think I'm gonna hurl!
