I have been waiting for weeks for Ford to release their new replacement " front axle engagement shift fork". Has anyone else had a problem with this? The pins are gone-( aluminum ). The dealer has dozens of people waiting for the part here. No TSB on this. I haven't seen anyone here mention this problem. Have been driving in 2x2 for now, like all the rest.

 

Dealership here got me the fork kit in a day. Put'n it on tomorrow. Although I didn't know they were coming out with a replacement one.

 

I'm thinking that you're getting the same thing I am, since I just got a call that my "kit" was in also. Includes the gears and a steel fork that's hell for stout, according to the guy doing the work. I wonder how many of these threads that I keep reading on engagement problems have this internal problem. Everyone seems to be hung up on servos and solenoids. If the fork isn't doing the job because it's shot, it could be easy to blame vacuum hoses and other components because they don't have the power to overcome the binding from the worn parts inside. When the mechanic manually engaged mine, he had a hell of a time getting it back out of 4x4.

 

I had a problem with the shift-fork on my 2003 as well. The old shift-fork was aluminum and one of the two tabs were worn down. This caused the system to engage about half the time. Since then, ford has installed the shift-fork kit and things have been fine. I hope this helps. Dave K.

 

I hope you didn't have to pay for the replacement. My only hope is a future TSB to re-coup any $$$. I'll be out 2 trips into the front hsg. in labor, plus the parts.

 

With my shift-fork, parts and labor were free because the truck was still under warranty. Dave K.

 

how much is one of these fork kits also do you have the part number on the new one? as my 03 screw 4wd didnt work then started working later? worked before today no probs?

 

If there is a service kit, they haven't made any info available through OASIS. I'd certainly like to hear more.

FWIW, failure of that fork, the lockup collar, or the vacuum motor is a rare occurrance. For every one of those I read about on here, there are a hundred with a sticky solenoid, or broken (or battery acid-eaten) vacuum lines.

 

The shop that installed my kit put my old fork and gears in a brake pad box, so I don't have a part number, but the aluminum fork pins were worn completely off. This rig has 36000 easy miles on it. I am the second owner, and the previous owner may have shifted on the fly frequently-don't know. Just the same, it's a cheesy POS and that's why they re-tooled the thing out of real metal. I'll post a part number for those interested later, when I find it. The dealers are ordering these things by the dozen here, with people backed up waiting, so it can't be an infrequent failure. OK--------here it is. The new shift fork kit with collar and gear and fork is part # F75Z3N139KG--------The list price is $167.08 + tax. They're just starting to roll into the dealers. Don't waste your time putting an aluminum fork in your vehicle. The only one you may find will be used or leftover stock that should have been pulled off the shelf. My rig shifts into lock-up smooth as silk now.

 

ok i called the dealer and they said this was the new one F75Z3N139KT and it superceeded this number f75zaa139kt? but the fork looks to me to be alluminum on this one ???

 

the local ford dealers keep telling me that the F75Z3N139KG is not a good number? what dealer did you buy this part number from maybe ill have to have one shiped to me?

 

The KG superceeds the KT---------If they're selling you a KT it's probably an old style aluminum one. Call Empire Ford in Spokane Wash. @ 509-458-3211 and ask for Willie. He wont slip you the willie. Probably not everyone has been brought up to current on this fix, as there's no TSB or recall ( yet ). DON"T WASTE YOUR TIME PUTTING THAT ALUMINUM TURD SCOOP IN YOUR TRUCK.

lol i called empire ford but willie does not come in for another hour so ill have to wait, the other parts guy said the kt's the new one but he knows nothing about the kG so i said ill wait till willie comes in and call back
