Dipstick stuck

I changed my oil today and when I went to check the oil I could not get the dipstick out. When I was pulling on it as hard as I could the ring broke off. The truck only has 37000 miles on it. Any help would be appreciated.

Take some gripping tool of some sort and try turning it while pulling it out. Mines sometimes a PITA to get out also, but its never gotten stuck. Im about the same mileage as you.

And just think that your 1000k out of your 3/36k and the dealer will charge for a new one but i cant imagine that they are that expensive.

I know but it should have never got stuck it is just plastic. I think I will have to drill it with a small bit on both sides to loosen it up.

try some heat on the metal... it would warm it up thus expanding it and it should pop right out...

Are you pulling straight up or are you twisting it? Get your pliers around the outer edge and twist it back and forth, that should break it loose.

I tried twisting it while pulling up still will not budge. It will twist just a little bit. it is almost as if the plastic has swelled up.

I dont think they are that expensive. From what I was told, there is a screw supporting the tube and just an "O" ring on the end holding the tube in the pan. Just take the screw out and tug. Then if you feel comfortable reusing the tube you just need a new stick.

Just finished fixing the truck. I removed the tube and drilled out the old dip stick. Put it back together and bought a new dip stick for 16.95 at the dealership.

There was a problem with the dip sticks on the 06's. I had mine replaced under warranty because it was stuck. I think the little O ring on the plastic pc. melted and turned into glue. They changed it out in a couple of minutes..
