Replace 04-08 fan blower motor resistor EMTC HVAC

This is a VERY easy repair....
If your fan isn't working on all speeds, the fan motor resistor is most likely what's faulty.
There are two types, one if you have automatic temperature control, and one if you have manual.
This is the manual one, Motorcraft part #3F2Z18591AA.
One Ford dealer quoted $22.17, another said $36.00

1) Open the glove box beyond it's stop by pressing the right side in, till the rubber stopper clears the side.

2) This is the part to replace.

3) The screws are 8mm.

4) Slide the part out....it's credit card size.

5) Press the center tab to remove the connector from the part.

Reverse these steps with the new part, and you're good to go!

Don't feel bad. I have had my truck for over 2 years and always wondered why speed 1 and 2 were so quiet... It was because they didn't work.

i remember these problems from the old resistor coil fan speed days on my s10. I cant believe 20yrs later and manufactures still havent done enough to make a decent fan speed circuit that doesnt eventually burn up.
Good post, now i know where it is when it eventually goes out.

Just to add to the OP. the glove box comes out entirely with the removal of two 7mm screws. I have found on plastic "hinged" parts that its easier to remove them than to bend them 90* in reverse.

Thanks so much, worked great. I had the same issue over the weekend. I bought the part for $37 at our local ford dealer, but could have purchased it for $19 at http://www.forddirectonline.com/ I have not used that site before, and did not like the fact that they won't tell you how much shipping is. They'll just add shipping at the time the order sent. I didn't want to risk a ridiculous shipping and handling fee.

I have to work on the speed control going out next (cruise control). Does anyone know what the orange wire is in the picture above? Perhaps an antennae? Just wondering as I am having zero luck finding a post as helpful as this one was for fixing the speed control.

Thanks again for the great post.
