Hey folks I did some searching but could only find one "how to" on how to go about replacing the rear pads on my 2010 FX4 and the pictures were nothing like what is on my truck although it said 2009-2014. The whole caliper is different than the front and I have never changed the back pads on this truck, and it's time. Any direction would be great, thanks in advance.

 

What mileage are your rear pads at? You will likely change the pads on the front at a 2-1 ratio vs the rear....

 

When I was on a pre-production test drive of a 2011 with a Ford rep he mentioned the brakes were changed in 2011. From driving my friend's 2009 and 2010 trucks I do notice a slight difference between their trucks and mine. However, I think most of the changes are in the swept area, valving and pad material. That said, unless you have 100,000+ miles or tow all the time I doubt you need rear pads.

I haven't changed these so I don't know any secret pointers outside of the typical rear Ford disc items. The biggest thing to know is there are two braking systems on the rear. The hydraulic side that is the caliper, disc etc you can see and the cable actuated parking brake side. The parking brake is a drum style brake on the inside of the hub. Most of the time these will need to be backed off before the rotor can be removed from the truck. Also, don't set the parking brake or you'll never get the rotor off.

 

I still have the OEM rear pads in mine, and it has 172k.

 

Ever since four wheel disc I have been able to make 200k miles on the OE pads.

The brakes were changed for the 2010 trucks. They went to the larger 13.8rotors and pads that gives more swept area. Nothing has been sayed about any changes on them scens. As well when you look up parts numbers they are the same from 2010 on
